A Change in Season, A Fresh Start
I’ve just returned from a short holiday in Cromer, where the shift in season felt impossible to miss. The evenings are drawing in, there’s a chill in the air, and that familiar back-to-school feeling has arrived. September has always struck me as a time of fresh starts, new routines, new projects, and renewed focus before the darker months set in.
Here at Whaley Bridge Coworkers, we’re embracing that seasonal energy. Our September calendar is full of opportunities to connect, learn, and create. There’s still time to place a silent bid on your favourite postcard from the Secret Postcard Show or take part in our monthly sewing club, Sew What?!
If you have youngsters in the family you will know how stressful life can be for them these days, so Janet from Relax Generations will be restarting her Wednesday Wind downs on 24th September. Just £5 per child for a chill out- themed guided meditation and sound bath that leaves them feeling light as a feather, peaceful and ready to take on the rest of the week. age 7-10 years.
Are you running a small business? Steve Phillips from the East Midlands Chamber is our business guru and he offers a Free Business Surgery here at the coworking space once a month. Find out about the fully funded Derbyshire Accelerator project, get help and guidance on grants and funding, find out about training workshops to build your skills and network with other business owners in the area. To book an appointment, WhatsApp the coworking space on 07355 263028
One of the things I am passionate about is digital exclusion. These days, you can be seriously disadvantaged if you don’t book on line, pay your bills online or don’t go online to find out about events in your area. Managing your health care is done via the NHS App and my ambition is to get it on every smart phone in Whaley Bridge! PCRefurb are a charity from Glossop who visit here on a monthly basis to help address the problems. We book appointments for people to come and get help with their smartphone, laptop or tablet. The problem I have is getting the word out there to the people who need it most, so please have a think about who you know could do with a bit of help. No question too small, half hourly appointments to answer questions or teach new processes. Please ask them to call or WhatsApp 07355 263028 to book. Next date 2nd October. Thankyou.
The month wouldn’t be complete without some crafty sessions…on alternate Thursdays the Twisted Embroiderers meet in the evening to embroider and make lace. Kate from Fields to Fabric is the facilitator, an experienced teacher, spinner, weaver and all-round yarn craftsperson. Contact her via her website for more information.
If Art is more your thing, then Rae Cleveland hosts Create, a monthly art session here in the space. Bring your own project or come and learn a new technique or seek advice from Rae, an experienced art teacher. Contact her on createspace11@outlook.com for more information and to book. Next date is 26th September.
Finally, the last Sunday of the month is Headshot Day with Sarah from LG Photography. for a professional headshot for your CV or LinkedIn profile. See her website for more information and contact.
Do you have an idea for a workshop or have a skill to share? We would love to hear from you and try to make it happen! Contact me Marella@whaleybridgecoworkers.com or WhatsApp 07355 263028.
Our vision goes beyond what happens within our four walls. We’re proud to be part of the Regenerating Whaley group, a collective working hard to improve the look and feel of Whaley Bridge. Right now, we’re applying for funding that could help us make a real, visible difference. As part of that process, a community survey will be landing on every doorstep in Whaley Bridge. We’d love as many people as possible to complete it online, but if you prefer the paper version, you’ll find collection boxes at Whaley Bridge Coworkers, Footsteps, and Horwich End Post Office. If you would like to complete it online, you can do so here . Everyone’s opinion counts, and the results will go on to inform new projects and events.
I am really pleased to tell you that I have just received my certificate for my Understanding mental health First Aid. Good mental health is just as important as physical health, and we at the coworking space want everyone who walks through our door to feel safe, supported and able to bring their whole self to work. That’s why we are also proud to have recently signed up with SafeSpace High Peak a local initiative that helps people know that we are a safe space for the trans+ community.
The seasons are shifting, and so too is our community. September feels like the perfect time to lean into change, to make fresh plans, and to shape the future together. We’d love to see you at the space soon, whether it’s for an event, a productive workday, or simply a coffee and a chat.
Marella
